America’s ultra-rich have reached a striking new milestone: the 400 wealthiest Americans are collectively worth a record $8 trillion, up from $6.6 trillion last year. The top 20 alone control $4 trillion—half of the list’s total wealth.
Elon Musk ranks first with an estimated $908 billion, followed by Jeff Bezos at $378 billion and Google cofounder Larry Page at $278 billion. Technology fortunes dominate the top rankings, with Michael Dell, Sergey Brin, Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Ellison, and Jensen Huang also among the ten wealthiest.
Entry into the 2026 Forbes 400 required a record net worth of $4.4 billion, compared with $3.8 billion in 2025. Despite that higher threshold, 34 newcomers joined the ranking, while 590 American billionaires failed to qualify. The estimates represent a snapshot of wealth as of September 4, 2026.
